Our Founder's Story
Tai Chi expert instructor with four decades of experience.
David C. Ritchie, B.S., M.A.
Our Tai Chi instructors at Central Connecticut Tai Chi Ch'uan bring over four decades of authentic martial arts experience to students throughout Meriden and Central Connecticut. David C. Ritchie, our director and founding instructor, began his martial arts journey in 1969 while attending the University of Connecticut's School of Agriculture.
His path led him through various disciplines, including Go Ju Ryu, Korean and Japanese martial arts, judo, aikido, and American boxing, before discovering his true calling in Tai Chi Ch'uan while practicing the Chinese style of Wing Chun. David's dedication to mastering this ancient art took him across the globe, studying under renowned masters in Malaysia, Hong Kong, and Thailand. David's extensive training began with his first teacher, Ben Wang, in 1973, marking the beginning of a lifelong dedication to this healing art. After five years of intensive study, tai chi became his sole focus.
